It started with five wedding invitations in a span of three months and our immediate reaction was, "What do we wear?" We did the math: one wedding equaled at least four distinct outfits (complete with matching accessories, of course). Since we didn’t have a trip to India planned, we knew the fashion hurdles we faced: 1) are our sarees still in fashion? 2) do they still fit? 3) can we still wear the salwar that was posted on Facebook for the world to see? With so few shops stateside that sell Indian clothing and accessories and without the time or funds to book a last minute trip to India to replenish our lehengha stockpile, we knew we had a fashion emergency on our hands.
We both felt there HAD to be a better way. So we created one. Introducing Luxemi.com – an innovative ecommerce platform for ethnic Indian clothing and accessories where you can BORROW from our closet for a specific event or BUY from our collection to add to your personal wardrobe.

3. After a magical night out in the outfit you’ve borrowed, simply use the free, prepaid shipping return envelope we’ve provided and you’re done (we’ll even take care of the dry cleaning!).

No, but there are a lot of perks if you do! Just give us your name, e-mail address and select a password. At Luxemi.com, we want to make shopping for Indian clothes something you look forward to. That’s why we’ve created an e-commerce website that is unlike anything else on the web: Luxemi.com allows you to either borrow, or buy, depending on your unique needs. We have two distinct collections on the website: clothing and accessories that are available for you to buy, and those that are available for you to borrow from our closet. When you buy from our collection, you can shop like you would at your favorite e-commerce website. Pick the piece you love, drop it in your shopping cart and it’s yours! When you borrow from our closet, you can select an outfit and/or accessories and wear them for a specific amount of time (at a fraction of their retail cost!) before returning them to us. This is a great way to take part in new styles or trends without making a huge financial commitment. Plus, by borrowing, you’ll satisfy your inner fashionista’s craving for variety!
Are items that are part of the buy collection available for borrow?
No. At Luxemi, we keep two completely distinct sets of inventory: garments and accessories that are available for you to buy and garments and accessories that are available for you to borrow from our closet. If you purchase an item from Luxemi to keep, you can rest assured that it has never been worn.
What is the Luxe Pack and can I keep it?
Each time you buy or borrow from Luxemi, you’ll receive a complimentary Luxe Pack, which contains bindis, safety pins and a beautiful saree bag for you to keep. That way, you’ll always be able to achieve your perfect look, courtesy of Luxemi.
Do I need to pay for import or duty taxes?
No. Import and duty taxes are already included in the price of the garment.
BUYING
When you buy from our collection, you can shop like you would at your favorite e-commerce website. Use our search filters, such as colors, styles and events to navigate the collection. Once you find the piece you can’t live without, drop it in your shopping cart and it’s yours!
I’ve made a purchase but I’m having cold feet. Can I cancel my order?
If you’ve chosen to buy a piece from our collection and decide you’d like to cancel your order, contact us as soon as possible. If your item hasn’t shipped, we’ll cancel the order at no cost.
How can I make sure the outfit I’m buying will fit me?
At Luxemi, we want to make sure that you look great in your new outfit, which is why we provide sizing charts to help you pick the right size. When you buy from our collection, sari blouses are shipped unstitched, which means you can have your tailor custom fit the blouse especially for you. Also, our salwars all have margins, giving you room to customize the fit just for you. Of course, if you’re unhappy with the fit of your purchase, you can return it pursuant to our return policy.
What if I purchased an outfit and decide I don’t want it when it arrives. Can I return it?
For pieces available for you to buy from our collection, we offer a thirty day return policy. If you return the garment within 15 days, you’ll even get free return shipping. If you return the garment between 15 and 30 days from your receipt, you’ll receive a refund less the cost of return shipping. To make things easy, all purchases from Luxemi.com come with prepaid return postage, just in case. Of course, to be eligible for returns, garments must have their original tags and be unworn, unaltered and undamaged.
Can I return accessories that I’ve purchased?
Luxemi is unable to offer returns, refunds, exchanges or credit on accessories, unless they are damaged when they arrive to you. If you receive damaged accessories, please contact customer services as soon as possible at: 1.773.770.LUXE (5893)(Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm CST).
BORROWING
1. Browse
Finding the perfect outfit to borrow from our closet is easy. There are a number of ways to search on Luxemi.com: you can filter through our closet by occasion, color, style, designer or the date of your event (which will narrow down the items available for you to borrow from our closet to only those items that are available on your date).
2. Reserve
Once you pick the look you love, enter in your event date and shipping information to make your reservation. When you borrow a saree, you’ll also be able to select a free backup blouse in a different size to ensure the perfect fit. To complete your reservation, select whether you want to borrow the piece for 4 or 10 days.
3. Return
Each outfit you borrow from Luxemi.com comes with a pre-paid return envelope. Once you’re done looking fabulous, drop the return envelope into any blue USPS mailbox. Orders must be postmarked by noon on the 4th day or the 10th day, depending on the length of your rental period.
How far in advance do I have to make a reservation to borrow an outfit?
Of course, the earlier you make a reservation the better (to ensure the piece you love is available). At the very least, we recommend you place the reservation at least 3 – 4 weeks before you need it. Once you make the reservation, we recommend reserving your dress to be delivered 1 – 2 days before your actual event.
How long does the borrow period last?
When you make a reservation, you’ll have the option of selecting a 4 or 10 day borrow period. The borrow period starts on the day your item is delivered (i.e. the day you selected when you made the reservation). For added convenience, whenever possible, we will try to send your item a day or so early. For a four day reservation, your return must be postmarked by noon on your 4th day. For example, if your item is delivered on Friday, then you must return it no later than Monday (the 4th day) before noon. If you’ve received your borrowed items and realize the rental period you selected is too short to meet your needs, we are happy to extend your rental period subject to availability. Help! The last day of my borrow period falls on a Sunday!
If the last day of your rental period falls on a Sunday or holiday, just return by noon the following business day.
If you’ve reserved a piece to borrow from our closet and cancel with at least 30 days notice prior to your rental date, we’ll issue you a full refund. If you cancel your borrow order within 30 days of the start of your rental date, we’ll issue you a full merchandise credit towards any future purchase on Luxemi.com.
How do you ensure that the saree blouses fit everyone?
We’ve taken great care in making sure all of our blouses in our borrow collection fit a wide range of body sizes. Each blouse was carefully constructed to allow you to adjust the fit according to your perfect size. To alleviate any worries, we also offer a FREE back-up saree blouse in another size to make sure you look and feel your absolute best! Want to know your size? What if the outfit I borrowed doesn’t fit?
If you’ve borrowed a garment that doesn’t fit, please contact us immediately so we can resolve the problem, either by shipping you something else or processing a credit for the full borrow fee to be used towards a future purchase. To qualify, the return package must be postmarked within 24 hours of your initial receipt and the merchandise must be unworn, unaltered, undamaged and unwashed with the original tags still attached. To return the garment, simply use the prepaid return envelope we provided with the item. You can drop off the return envelope at any U.S. Postal Service Mailbox (the blue ones!) or at your post office. You can also visit www.usps.com/pickup to arrange for a free pickup. If these conditions are met, we will process a full credit less the cost of shipping.
Can I alter something I’ve borrowed?
No. If you make alterations to something you’ve borrowed from our closet, you’ll be charged for the full retail value of the piece. If you’d like to have the option of tailoring a piece specifically for you, please browse our buy collection.
What if the outfit I borrowed does not arrive in time for my event?
We always suggest that you select a rental start date (which is in essence, your delivery date) that is at least one day prior to your big event. That way, if the item(s) you’ve borrowed from our closet do not arrive on the date you’ve specified, we can overnight you an equally fabulous replacement outfit that will reach you in time for your event. What if the outfit I borrowed arrives and is damaged?
Although we carefully inspect every item before it goes out, sometimes a piece may sustain damage before it reaches you. If the piece you selected fits, but is damaged, return it to us immediately. As long as the return is postmarked within 24 hours of your receipt, you’ll receive a full refund. Make sure that the original tags are still on the garment and it is unworn and unaltered in any way.
Do I have to purchase insurance when I borrow apparel or accessories?
Yes. To protect our customers from liability for ordinary wear and tear, we require that customers purchase insurance for the apparel and/or accessories that they borrow. The cost for insurance is $5 per item for apparel and $3 per item for accessories (but the peace of mind you’ll gain is priceless!).
What happens if I accidentally stain or damage the outfit I borrowed?
Not to worry, at Luxemi we understand that accidents happen. Usually, our professional dry cleaner can handle most of the damage, so please don’t try to clean the item on your own before shipping it back. However, since you’ve purchased the $5 insurance, you shouldn’t worry, because it’ll cover most average wear and tear, stains and missing beads for borrowed outfits. Please note that significant damage, such as dresses that are ripped at the seams, fire damage, theft or anything that renders the dress unwearable, will result in a charge to you of eight (8) times the rental price (which is a reasonable estimate of the cost of replacement to Luxemi).
How do I know that the outfit I borrowed is clean?
Luxemi has partnered with a professional dry cleaner that specializes in Indian clothing and understands how to work with delicate fabrics and beading. Every piece is dry cleaned and inspected to meet Luxemi’s strict quality control standards before being shipped out.
I’ve fallen in love with the outfit I borrowed. Can I keep it?
Unfortunately, items available for borrow from our closet cannot be purchased. We keep two completely distinct sets of inventory, allowing you to borrow from our closet or buy from our collection. Please check our buy collection to see if you can find something comparable. Also, if you want to see the item you borrowed for sale in the future, please let us know at customercare@luxemi.com.
How many outfits can I borrow at one time?
Luxemi is happy to have you borrow up to four (4) outfits at a time.
When is my credit card charged for borrowing an item?
Your credit card will be charged the day you make the reservation.
How do I return my borrowed items to Luxemi once I’m done?
Returning an item to Luxemi is easy. Just place the item in the bubble wrap mailer we’ve provided and send it home to us! There’s no need to dry clean or iron the garment before making the return – our professional dry cleaners will take care of that! If you’ve borrowed jewelry from our closet, please send it back to us the same way (as long as the jewelry is undamaged. If it is damaged, please call us). The Luxe Pack, including the beautiful saree bag, is our gift to you, so please keep it and enjoy! Remember that when making a return, the return must be postmarked by noon on the final day of your rental. If the final day of your borrow period falls on a Sunday or holiday, you must make the return by noon on the next business day.
What if I return my borrowed item late?
If you’ve borrowed an item from Luxemi and return it late, you will incur late fees as follows: you will be charged $45 for the first day that the return is late (on top of the rental fee), and $75 for every subsequent day up to eight times (8x) the rental price. However, if you’ve booked a four day rental and realize you’re going to be late on your return, please call us and we will switch you from a four day rental to a ten day rental, if the item is available. What happens if I lose or misplace my return envelope?
If you misplace the return envelope we’ve provided, it’s your responsibility to send the order back to us at the agreed upon time (postmarked by noon on the last day of your rental) at your own cost.
Can I rent accessories without renting an outfit?
Of course!
What if I rent accessories but I have to return the outfit because it doesn’t fit?
We do not offer refunds or credit on accessories, so you are welcome to keep the accessories for the full rental period. If the piece you selected to borrow from our closet doesn’t fit, contact us immediately and return the item. The item must be postmarked within 24 hours of receipt for you to receive a full refund, less the cost of shipping. Make sure that the garment still has its original tags and is undamaged, unworn and unaltered in any way.
What happens if I accidentally damage the accessories I’ve borrowed?
Since you’ve purchased insurance, it’ll cover minor damage such as a stone falling out, a clasp breaking and so forth. However, if you lose the piece entirely, if the piece is shattered, and/or if it is rendered unwearable, you’ll be charged an amount equal to eight times the rental price (which is a reasonable estimate of the cost of replacement to Luxemi).
I’ve fallen in love with the accessories I borrowed. Can I keep them?
Unfortunately, you cannot keep accessories that you’ve borrowed. Please browse our buy collection and see if we have a similar piece for you to purchase. If not, please let us know which piece you love and we’ll try our best to add it to our buy collection in the future.
How do I know the accessories I’ve borrowed are clean?
At Luxemi, cleanliness is a top priority. All accessories are hand-cleaned and sterilized before they are shipped out. Also, we give each customer alcohol wipes and extra backs for all earrings so you have nothing to worry about!
SHIPPING
Luxemi has partnered with UPS to make shipping super easy. When you borrow from Luxemi, our system will automatically select the most cost effective shipping method based on your borrow date and the outfit you’ve selected. That way, you can rest assured that UPS will deliver your outfit when you need it. If you’re buying an outfit, we offer multiple UPS shipping options for you to select from, including UPS Ground and UPS Next Day.
How much does it cost to ship?
At Luxemi, we charge a flat rate shipping fee based on the value of your total order, regardless of whether you borrow or buy. We currently offer both UPS Ground and Next Day shipping options. Ground orders will be processed within 3 business days and typically take 3-5 business days to arrive to you. For Next Day orders, orders recieved before 12 P.M. CST on a business day will be processed and shipped that day. Orders received after 12 P.M. CST on a business day or on a weekend or holiday will be processed and shipped the following business day. Pricing is as follows:

Next Day:
Flat rate of $35*
*Charges for Next Day shipping and Ground Shipping may slightly increase as you add more items to your order. You will be notified of the exact price before you checkout.
Can I have a package delivered to a place other than my home?
Of course. Just make sure to provide the exact address of where you want your delivery. If shipping to a hotel, make sure to include the hotel name and address the package to the person who made the hotel reservation. As an added precaution, notify the hotel that you are expecting a package. Please note that we are unable to ship to a PO Box.
Currently, Luxemi only ships within the continental United States. We’ll keep you posted when we expand our shipping options. For our international customers, we hope to provide our services to you soon, so please check back with our website periodically.
What happens if I lose or misplace my return envelope?
If you misplace the return envelope we’ve provided, it’s your responsibility to send the order back to us at the agreed upon time (postmarked by noon on the last day of your borrow period) at your own cost.
